Alton Towers’ Halloween Scarefest is back for 2019 – and it’s got some truly terrifying-looking new attractions.
The theme park has revealed details of a new scare maze that promises to frighten visitors out of their wits.
The Attic: Terror of the Towers is set in the eaves of the historical tower ruins, which is rumoured to be haunted by ‘the Governess’.
Local legend has it that she roams the ruins, eternally trying to avenge the death of her charges – and taking the spirits of the living as penance.
The latest chapter in the resort’s Terror of the Towers maze trilogy, the Edwardian-themed horror experience ‘will use the sensation of colour in a very clever and masterful way to add an additional layer to the spine-tingling multisensory terror’, we’re told.
The 2019 Scarefest lineup will also feature a second new maze, Darkest Depths, set on board ghost ship The Mutiny where passengers must face the treacherous Sirens, marauding pirates and the Kraken sea monster.
The Alton Towers Dungeon will also be getting some extra spooky touches this year with the introduction of the live action Plague Street and some more bonus frights.
The Scarefest 2019 lineup also features the return of post-apocalyptic sewer maze Sub Species: The End Games, and Project 42, set in a secret underground compound where visitors must find a vaccination before they contract a deadly infection.
Visitors can also take a trip down the old Altonville Mines to discover the chilling legend of the Skin Snatchers.
More family-friendly frights can be found in the Freaky Fun Zone, where kids can meet Halloween characters, hear spooky stories from Skelvin and enrol at Ghoul School, and over at CBeebies Land, which will be hosting a CBeebies Monster Ball.
As ever, the park will be open until 9pm every day for visitors to ride all the theme park’s roller coasters in the dark during the festival, which takes place on October 5, 6, 12, 13 and then every day between October 18 and November 3.
Full price tickets start from £34 when you book online in advance.
