Both of Chelsea’s goals came as a result of defensive mishaps, with the first being particularly bad following two mistakes in quick succession from Benjamin Mendy.
It was a microcosm of the Blues’ season as they have struggled at the back, with left-back being one of the problem areas. City opted against spending big on a new left-back last summer following the emergence of Aleks Zinchenko and the willingness to give Mendy another chance.
Instead Angelino was brought back on a cut-price deal but it soon backfired with the Spaniard being loaned out after just 12 appearances, while Mendy and Zinchenko have struggled with injuries.
As a result, City are being heavily linked with a number of left-backs and Leicester’s Chilwell, who they were interested in last summer, is one of them.
Chelsea are also said to be making a move for the 23-year-old and, according to the Daily Mirror, the Foxes are considering a bargain move for Clark in preparation of losing Chilwell.
Meanwhile, City are once again being linked with Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly.
The centre of defence has also been a big problem for City this season so it’s of little surprise that Pep Guardiola is being touted to improve the heart of his back-line as well.
According to CalcioMercato, via SportWitness, Guardiola is a long-term admirer of Koulibaly and City are set to push to sign him this summer.
However, it’s claimed that the Senegal international would cost £91.3million which, considering City decided against spending £80million on Harry Maguire last summer, would appear too high for them.
