Manchester United reportedly have rivals in Chelsea and Bayern Munich for the signing of Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Denis Zakaria.
However, some supporters still believe that a new defensive midfielder could well be required as 32-year-old Nemanja Matic approaches the end of his career, although Fred and Scott McTominay played brilliantly in the position in the 2-1 victory over Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday.
A new centre-back and right-winger are thought be the club’s current priorities next summer but that hasn’t stopped them being linked with the combative Zakaria.
The 23-year-old has impressed for Gladbach since signing for them in 2017 from Young Boys and has earned 28 caps for Switzerland. Although he is yet to play this season due to injury, he was vital for the Foals in the previous campaign and made 31 appearances, contributing two goals and two assists from his defensive role.
According to Bild, Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich have joined in the race for Zakaria and will rival United and Chelsea for his signature.
Meanwhile, Erling Braut Haaland will not look to leave Borussia Dortmund next year, according to reports in Germany.
United were interested in signing the Norwegian last January but pulled out of the deal after refusing to agree to a buyout clause and percentage of future sales.
Bild suggest that Haaland is happy to stay with the Bundesliga club despite continued links with United, as well as Real Madrid.
