Manchester United fans have given a damning verdict on the club’s transfer business this summer after deadline day passed without any more new signings.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has prioritised young, British talent, and has solved a long term problem in signing centre-back Maguire.
The decision to withdraw from talks with Juventus striker Paulo Dybala was praised by fans, and striker Romelu Lukaku was allowed to leave for Inter Milan after refusing to train this week.
United go into the new season without a senior replacement for Lukaku, and they also failed to add any new reinforcements in central midfield following the exit of Ander Herrera.
Manchester United transfer deadline day latest
The club could still be involved in some transfer activity, with European leagues able to do buy players until September 2.
That could see the likes of Marcos Rojo – who nearly joined Everton on deadline day – and Matteo Darmian in finding new clubs.
But when MEN Sport asked fans if they felt the transfer window had been a success or not, the answer was almost unanimous.
Of the 5,500 fans who responded, 93% voted that the club could have done better this summer.
Only 7% felt the arrivals of James, Wan-Bissaka and Maguire represented a positive window.
United start their Premier League campaign against Chelsea this weekend, and Solskjaer will be tasked with returning the side to the top four.
If the fans are proved to be right, Solskjaer may be forced to dip into the January transfer market to add reinforcements.
