Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel has urged fans to stay patient and trust in the process after defeat against Newcastle in the Premier League .
United looked void of ideas as their woeful form continued against the Magpies before Matty Longstaff fired past David De Gea in the second half.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer ‘s men never looked like equalising and Newcastle held on for a vital three points that moved them out of the bottom three, now just two points behind United.
After another dreadful performance, United fans rightly expressed their dissatisfaction but Schmeichel thinks everyone needs to stay patient.
He cited Sir Alex Ferguson’s slow rebuild of United as the prime example to why fans need to give the manager and team time.
Manchester United vs Newcastle reaction
“Before we all go mad about what needs to be done and gets carried away on how ‘bad’ it is, let’s just remind ourselves of how long it took Sir Alex Ferguson to create a winning team,” he wrote on Twitter.
“Manchester United building success takes time!”
Solskjaer admitted after the game that he couldn’t give a time frame on when he’d turn United’s form around, but vowed to fight for a place in the Premier League top four.
He said: “Solutions to the problems? That’s the million dollar question. If you only work on sunny days, you’ll never get to your destination.
“It will take however long it will have to take. It’s a journey we’ve started on and the culture is getting there. I can’t give you any time but we’re getting there.
“We’ve given ourselves a big, big uphill challenge to get among the top four but it’s tight.”
