Ole Gunnar Solskjaer insists Daniel James’ confidence is high despite another weak performance from the Manchester United winger.
The 22-year-old has started three times this season and been substituted in all three with United either level or trailing. James was replaced by debutant Edinson Cavani against Chelsea.
James has played poorly for most of the calendar year and Leeds United were interested in signing him towards the end of the transfer window. Solskjaer is prepared to be patient with the Welshman, though.
“Dan’s confidence is high,” Solskjaer said. “Because he’s starting games with the quality of players he’s in the team with. Today was one of those days where he played against some good players as well, he had some moments, and we keep on working.
“Dan’s had a really good impact at the club and we’re looking forward to developing him more.”
United are winless in their last five Premier League games at Old Trafford and welcome RB Leipzig in the Champions League on Wednesday before Arsenal visit on Sunday.
Southampton and West Ham earned deserved draws at the end of last season and Crystal Palace were triumphant before Tottenham trounced United 6-1. Their last victory at home was in the Europa League round-of-16 second leg against LASK on August 5.
“We have difficult opponents, that’s true, we have RB Leipzig in the Champions League and then Arsenal, so another two big games,” Solskjaer added. “Difficult games, but we’ll make sure we’re ready for them.
“Good preparation, as we always do, and let’s see where we get.”
